GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA
A TIME was HAD I tell you!!
In my few hours at Greenville, I had the most memorable time with every single person who happened to stop by. There is always that subtle anxiety that speaks "Will I sell a single book?", "Will a single person care to hear what I have to say?", "Will I get to take any memorable moment from this?".
Let me tell you, I DID have a memorable moment. I had one 13 year old girl come up to me, told me all about middle school strife and BOY do I remember how hard it was. She was talking fast, a little nervous, but so full of light. One day, she is going to move mountains and I hope the world will bring me back around to see it happen. Anyway, she talked about how mean teenage boys are, how little hope there seems to be in middle school, and trying to find the balance between being mean to being kind. If you asked 13 year old me how I handled mean people, it was simple, I told them to go fuck themselves. Showed my fangs more than I used my words. However, what moved me was this, she said "You are SO cool, and so pretty, can I take a picture?". This brought me to the thought... would MY 13 year old self, think I am cool? To be honest I think my 13 year old self would be my biggest hater. She would probably look at me and be like "You only wrote 1/4 of the story, what's taking so long?".
I will say this, it was a honorable moment, knowing that my aura allowed me to meet a 13 year old girl who resembled A LOT of me at 13 years old and praise how "cool" I was. It was almost a subtle gesture from G.U.S.S saying "Good work kid, you did it."
My take away from all of this:
BE who you needed when you were younger, the rest will figure itself out. As well as, middle school should be studied because why is it soooooo, violent?
All my love,
Shay
